Plant of the Month for July

Thinking of updating or designing a Cottage Garden? Lakeside has a great collection of plants, herbs and shrubs to get you started and are our Plant of the Month for July. A time-tested principle for Cottage Gardens is to use layering, but keep it simple, with tall focal plants at the back such as Lupins, Foxgloves, Alstroemeria and Delphiniums and mid to low soft plants like Verbena, Cosmos, Mint, Nigella, Rudbeckia and Heuchera towards the front which when in flower all create a harmonious flow. Honeysuckle and Climbing Roses look fabulous when entwined around arches, obelisks and gazebos. Curved edges also help keep a relaxed and flowing appearance to the garden and elements such as natural stone walls, ornaments and winding gravel pathways further add to the romance a Cottage Garden brings.
