Lakeside Recommends - Planting out vegetables

Lakeside Recommends - Planting out vegetables

Lakeside now has vegetable plants on sale plus strawberries, herbs and sweet peas ready for planting out. Ideally your saplings should be acclimatised to the outdoors for a week or two prior to planting. This is called ‘hardening off’. We recommend placing your plants outside during the day and then take them back into the shelter of a frost-free greenhouse or conservatory at night. This will help to toughen them up and get them used to being outside. Water thoroughly, so the compost is moist. Plus this will make it easier to remove the plants from their cells and pots and reduce the risk of damaging the roots. If planting in a container or pot, choose one that is large enough to accommodate the vegetable plants once they're fully grown. Lakeside would also recommend adding a plant food such as Tomorite to the saplings to encourage root growth, healthy plants and bumper harvests! Happy growing!
